Ideally I would like to do a year in review, but perhaps once the New Year comes and goes, I will have a moment to actually sit down and stew... for now, let's just talk about the bright future ahead, shall we!?!

Alrighty, then... first and foremost... January 1st, it's happening again,

folks. I will be tossing caution and pasties to the wind and hoping that I can be voted in to the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly weekender! I had to say, I waffled, but the minute I found out the king of all rockabilly himself was going to be performing... that star of stars himself. Mr. Jerry Lee Lewis was headlining... I just had to do it, I had to take it as a sign. I have loved him since I could wear shoes and boogie folks, so bear with me this month. It's gonna be quite a ride. I have a new video being put together by the good Professor, with the blessing of Blair Crimmins himself. I have a good feeling about it this year, ya'll so I hope to count on your support and love!

Please make an effort to go to both of them, they are absolutely fabulous! You won't regret it!
Next Meeting: January 4th 2011

So as some of you may or may not know I was out of commission for a few weeks for personal reasons. I am back, and full steam ahead ladies and gents, rest assured, but one of the detriments of believing you are invincible and realizing that you are indeed... not... is that you like to make commitments... then fail at them when your body says no.

So... as we discussed previously the Atlanta Burlesque and Cabaret always does better with a topic of conversation. We chatted briefly about the movie "Burlesque" we all said a big ol' gaggle of us should hit the new movie "Burlesque" in the movie theatre. We all knew this thing was going to be an atrocity, but then I read something that gave me pause to consider putting my hard earned sheckles into seeing a film that pretty much smacks of absolute ignorance of a genre we all sweat bleed and cry for because we love it.

Let's face it my bedazzled brethren of boundless bounty... we don't make much for the thing we love. Is it really a good thing to put one dime behind something that really just does not get what burlesque really is? I am not going to even attempt to say what my dear friend Tigger! has put so eloquently and succinctly down already. And I for one haven't totally made up my mind either. But I thought that Tigger!'s words are so nicely said, sharing this illumination with our little community would do a lot of good. So here it is, and I would invite you to discuss with me, or with others in the local scene your feelings on it as well ladies and gents, if you haven't had the divine pleasure already, the retarded genius himself, Tigger!:
Subject: [missexoticworld] Burlesque- the movie or the art form?

I finally broke down and responded to questions about the movie they happened to call "Burlesque." I know, I know. Another one? I can only offer that it is not a review, just a response to some of the press:

"I will not join the chorus of my burlesque brethren reviewing the film because I have not seen it. I have read and heard enough reviews to know that I'm not interested in paying for what will likely be a disappointing experience. (Maybe I'll rent it some drunken night next year.) I'm not livid that it's out there, I just don't think I'd enjoy the film, regardless of its title. It has also been made clear that it does not reflect burlesque as our community knows/practices/cherishes it. I do recognize the opportunity that this film's publicity presents for us to get new audiences in to see what we do, even if they were expecting something quite different. I support a very broad definition of burlesque and can live with the fact that mine has very little in common with Mr. Antin's.

However, I do take exception to this sniffing attitude of superiority to dirty strippers. Down & dirty strippers (and confrontational performance artists too) are every bit as much our forebears as cabaret and vaudeville artists. Burlesque is a working class art form. It historically employs low humor to skewer self-righteous so-called high culture. It lampoons politics and is a political art form itself, especially in our puritanical society. These are essential elements. It seems to me that his film does none of these things. Another critical element in burlesque is Self-Expression. That is very difficult to achieve when you're trotting out tired imitations of Fosse's brilliant work. Most artists feel strongly that you do not celebrate your heroes by merely imitating them but by learning from them and perhaps feeling their influence here and there in your own original work.

Attitudes like those attributed to Antin & Culpepper in the press suggest that they seek to "elevate" burlesque. (From The Advocate: "The two shared a vision of burlesque — musical parody with sexual innuendo, as it originated in Europe in the 1800s, before it got muddled together with stripping.") These people who strive to make burlesque highbrow are working to kill it. When burlesque becomes elitist and ceases to connect with real people, it ceases to be burlesque. By all means, we should be intelligent and subtle and witty in our work, but we have to achieve the high/low balancing act. We need to deliver thoughtful content and practiced artistry while Entertaining the people in the cheap seats.

Similarly, opera used to be for everyone and was lively and exciting. Opera stars used to be rock stars. Once upon a time, ordinary working class people could afford to see it and even had fun at the opera. As far as most ordinary people today are concerned, opera is as good as dead. I do not want to see that happen to burlesque."

xxx Tigger!

SOOOOoooo... now that you have read that, I would love to know your feelings on the matter. I personally feel that the Opera point is an interesting topic, and i would very much like to talk about how that correlates to our art form in your opinion.
So THAT is our next topic of conversation for the January Atlanta Burlesque and Cabaret Meetup! Talloolah Lovehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07605231460455197131noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577143268247452792.post-39096261673738805032010-08-23T05:42:00.000-07:002010-08-23T06:52:20.714-07:00WHEW!!!Long time no chat my little chick-a-dees! So sorry for my absence but for those of you who know the ins and outs of The Sweetest "T" in the South, you'd know things have been... shall we say hectic since taking it all in a new direction? So for my absence I apologize, but for what I have been working on? I shall not, for as my good friends in NOLA say, "Art does not apologize!".

So let's give an update shall we? Where to begin? I have my new website updated if you will peruse, I am sure you will agree, it is about darned time!!! Go to www.talloolah.com you will see my latest shoots and can keep up with future shows and of course, my day to day activities are always available on twitter and facebook! :)

Last week, I went to see The Dames A'flame with The King Sized Orchestra. Big Mike is looking quite svelte and trim these days, and sounding even more stellar than ever! The Elvis show is always a blast, though I was sad not to see my darling El Vez. This will be the first year in three that I have gone an entire year with no dose of El Vez... I might just go in to shock!

This weekend was ... to put it lightly, insane. I had a lovely weekend filled with burlesque and hot steampunk action, and more hot. Friday night, I spent a lovely evening hosting the beautiful dancer Mrs. Christy Smith and her lovely husband Doug, Saturday, the good Dr. Q and I tended to the lab to prepare it for a great experiment, which we will get in to later.

Saturday evening the beautiful Kisa Von Teasa, Mr. Von Teasa, Queenie, and Onca O'Leary all decended upon Casa de V after a stellar show put on by Syrens of the South Productions at the Eyedrum. What a lineup, what a show!!! I was so impressed and proud of all of the people on the stage who have been working so hard to put together such a fun and beautiful show. Katherine Lashe really pulled no punches on gathering some of the South's finest together, and though I heard there were 17 acts, like most shows that are just too good for words, it went by in a flash. We had a great time at the after party. Talk about a fantastic host and hostess! Thanks Christy & Doug!!! Nothing like ending a stressful, insane day with some hot tub action and good people. But it wasn't too long before the hay had to be hit and we all needed to rest for the next day's early morning action!

Sunday, we all hit the ground running. Onca left in hot purple shorts to go practice with the amazing ladies of Awalim, while Kisa, Queenie, Dr. Q, and I got the house ready for the largest photo shoot I have ever coordinated! Some twenty local steampunk cosplayers descended upon the house in force. Tesla guns, top hats cocked, and goggles at the ready, the models were positively divine in far more decadence than I could have ever dreamed of! Thanks to Queenie, and Megan Maude, the sets were divine, thanks to all the models, and Dr. Q, and Mr. Appleblossom, everyone stayed fed and hydrated. Though it was chaotic, the shoot worked out like well, clockwork, and though i won't tell you the details, you will have to wait for the release... I think this will be one of the best shoots I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of!!!

Appleblossom, and Matt of DimHorizon Studios worked tirelessly throughout the day snapping shots, and directing the artists... We all sat still for about twenty minutes to eat lunch, then we ventured to the Pirate Ship Venus for a time with Captain Bill and his good wife Cat. It was a great day of socializing, perusing and posing for all!

Here it is Monday, the lab is starting to come back together slowly but surely, and we hope to show off the fruits of our labor soon! Nine days from Dragon Con, we are all just exhausted and hoping to breathe for a moment soon before getting back in to fifth gear! I have two costumes in the works, and will be working on a video project and big prop here soon for the next Blast-off Burlesque show.Talloolah Lovehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07605231460455197131noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577143268247452792.post-90874942357825546432010-05-21T08:00:00.001-07:002010-05-21T09:29:17.917-07:00I told you it was a big ol' whirlwind didn't I?
Photo By Derek Jackson at "all about Vag" show
"You come to a point in your life when you really
don't care what people think about you, you just care what you think
about yourself." -Evel Knievel

Well I wasn't lying, true to form things have gone all Topsy-turvy in Talloolah Land! but that's the way the tassel twirls darlin' some times you gotta pick up yer bootstraps and shake it up!

So if you're behind on the times, I made a press release the other day about my separation from Syrens:
http://www.facebook.com/talloolah?v=app_2347471856

I am excited about the possibilities on the horizon I hope you all are too! I loved doing Syrens, but it was time.

I also had the privilege to work with Pinup girl Cosmetics for a photo shoot. I am SOOO excited to get to show you all the results! I got a small taste through the viewfinder and I am thinking: HOT HOT HOT!!!

You should check out Pinup's latest and greatest photos and summer saving's sale. Miss Renea' Le Roux, and my good friend, Miss Kisa von Teesa will be competing for their respective categories and I just can't wait to tell you all about the nitty gritty of the fine and glittery burlesque supa' stars!!!

The next plans I have are for the fantastical Americana Burlesque and Sideshow Festival (ABS Fest). This fabulous gala is run by one of the coolest people I know, Ms. Onca O'Leary. I am hoping a good number of people come out to see this show, it's going to be FAN TASTIC, Asheville is after all, the Paris of the South, the weekend is fraught with divine decadence and reckless abandon as it starts with serenades on a big purple bus that bustles through town as deep swigs of booze and fraternizing action of the performers and crew tumbles all through the streets! And that's just opening night!!! The shows are always amazing, the afterparties are fabulous, and all the while the entire event (that is really burlesque AND sideshow) smacks of not only incredible entertainment, but real workshops you can sink your teeth in to and really learn about the culture, the background the work that goes in to all of the thing burlesque requires. The special featured performer is none other than the enchanting Michelle L'amour

Ms. L'amour is one of the very first professional burlesque performers I ever actively did research on. She won the crown the year I really started to look in to traveling and fell in love with her instantly, I mean, who doesn't love the idea of Snow White gone bad bad bad?!?!

And the new thing this year is the Tiki Brunch at Asheville's Tiki Bar with a conga line run by the one and only Blastoff Folks who, I hear are performing through out the weekend guys!!! :) You know I love me some Blastoff! Tell me this doesn't sound like a real party!
To find out more information about the ABS Festival, go here!

http://tinyurl.com/3yjbb5m

or if you are not in to that book of faces
http://www.absfest.hardestworkingwomaninshowbusiness.com/Talloolah Lovehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07605231460455197131noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577143268247452792.post-10764870075948108752010-04-05T05:46:00.000-07:002010-04-05T06:05:44.051-07:00One whirlwind after another! And it just isn't going to slow down soon friends, no not at all!!!
Were you at the Mechanical Masquerade weekend before last? If you weren't you missed a great party. Not only was it a fabulous event, but it was also Katherine Lashe's birthday party! I did a number about torture just for her, and I made a great big cthulhu pinata for her that was of epic proportion!!! Wombat capture a picture of the act
Did you hear my good friend Ursula Undress made runner up in the Viva Las Vegas Competition? I know I just keep going on about it, but I think it's stellar, and I couldn't be more proud! I only wish I could have been there!

This week, I have a packed schedule, I just came back from a PACKED show at Frolicon performing for Momma D's house of Burlesque, then a fabulous after party at the abode de Sabrina Pandora, tonight is massage then lyra, I wouldn't bet for a second my poor little muscles are going to be very confused!

Then tomorrow is rehearsal with the Vauxhall players, and then Wednesday is my favorite night of the month!!! Atlanta Burlesque and Cabaret Club Meeting! YAY!!! I am hoping Ursula will be able to join us for a pop of the bubbly and a toast in her honor! (Crosses Fingers)

Thursday, I perform for Vagina Jenkin's Benefit to get her to London, then oh my, do I get to breathe for a second Friday??? Perhaps! But then Saturday is the student showcase and Cock-a-billy/ Chicken show! Sunday, it's back on the lyra for me, and I don't even want to think about the schedule for next week 'till I have to, rest assured at some point I will have to pack for Chicago for the Windy City Burlesque Festival,

then turn around and pack for Austin! April is going to be the death of the Talloolah Bird, I just know it!!!

All my love with crystal kisses!

Talloolah Love
"Sweetest 'T' in the South!"Talloolah Lovehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07605231460455197131noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577143268247452792.post-16302221673741262892010-02-24T09:06:00.000-08:002010-02-24T09:13:16.331-08:00Ever think about following me on my exploits darling?Check me out on Facebook here:
http://www.facebook.com/talloolah?ref=profile

Twitter here:
http://twitter.com/TalloolahLove

Myspace here:
www.Talloolah.com

My bedroom window here:
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=45499803&albumID=2584999&imageID=50878229

Hah-hah!!! With her beautiful beauties and dashing gents, we partied the night away with a stellar valentease show that knocked more than socks off in the beautiful Visualite theatre. I performed again with the lovely Renea' Le Roux, the tantalizing Nicolette Tesla, the cute as a button miss Cherry Muffin, and the lovely Miss Gigi Boom made her stage debut as well! There were of course many others, they were all awesome, warm and gracious. I had a fantastic time, and can't wait to hit the stage with them again in the near future.

Tribute to narcissism? Why, I do not mind if I doo!!! Here are a few shots taken by Ron Tencati of yours truly:

and

Here's one with a real card,Ron Tencati and the beautimous Mamma D!

So onward and upward I always say my friends, and nothing's better than looking up to only five days ahead to begin to appreciate where things are headed! This weekend I take the stage with some good friends and kind company at the Vroom Vroom Valentine's show. This thing's got some velocity! So better hop on for the ride guys!

Hope to see you there! With Hotsie Totsie

After a decade of training in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and Renaissance dancing, Hotise Totsie got hep to the jive. Now this burlesque baby puts some swing in her step! In Beyond Boobies, Hotsie will teach you how to borrow moves from the stars of the Cotton Club, the Folies Bergeres, the Vegas Strip, and the silver screen -- even if you have no formal dance experience. It's burlesque appeal with or without the reveal! The class is open to guys and dolls. Wear clothes you can move in --high heels, if you can handle them!

2pm They shimmied, they smoked, they spooned, and they sizzled. They cut their hair short and their hemlines shorter. And when the depression hit, their bare skin raised spirits higher than the arch in their eyebrows. These were the bad girls of the twenties and thirties. We follow it with a classic horror movie on actual 35mm film!

KIDS UNDER 12 FREE AT 1:00 MATINEE! EVERYONE ELSE ONLY $8. ALL TICKETS ARE $12 FOR THE 10:00 SHOW!

The second major addition to Toho Studios' giant-monster series after Gojira (aka Godzilla, 1954), was Rodan (or Radon), a giant pterodactyl whose wings create massive, destructive winds as it flies by. There are actually two of them in this film, mates who finally get together (after the traditional destruction of various Japanese cities) and die in an oddly touching lovers' death-swoon into an active volcano. The film's best sequence is the chilling opening, in which Rodan's egg is discovered in a cave by doomed miners. The first color film in the series, Ishiro Honda's effective thriller features some interesting special-effects work by Eiji Tsuburaya and was dubbed into English by actors including Keye Luke and future Star Trek crewman George Takei. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

All the way from Alabama!

Little Tree Studios, Avondale Estates, GA- September 26th, 2009, 9pm - Come One, Come All and Join the Pink Box Burlesque and their Big Top Show! But fear not, the current neo-burlesque and vaudeville revival proves that everything old is new again. Want more? Hepcat gives the shortcuts to building your vaudeville library, with suggestions on texts for further reading and info on where to find the most jam-packed video archives for this important, ever-growing art form.

Disclaimer: Classes in the ABCs & 123s Class Series are $20 each or
$60 for a four class pass, a savings of $20.
